ENERGY STAR

The choice for a better environment.

ENERGY STAR is a U.S. government-sponsored program that helps businesses and homeowners save energy and protect the environment by giving them the information they need to make smart choices about efficiency. A key component of this program is the ENERGY STAR qualified label, which recognizes excellence in energy-efficient performance.

More efficient home environment

One of the strongest reasons for choosing an ENERGY STAR qualified product over a conventional model is that it can deliver significant savings. An ENERGY STAR furnace can reduce your heating costs by as much as 40%.1 And an ENERGY STAR air conditioner can save you up to 60% on your cooling bills.1 Both products may make you eligible for a tax credit.

Cleaner global environment

Choosing an ENERGY STAR qualified product not only makes sense economically it also makes sense from an environmental standpoint. According to the EPA2, if just one in ten households installed ENERGY STAR heating and cooling products, the change would keep more than 17 billion pounds of pollution out of the air.

AFUE

Stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. The AFUE number represents how efficiently a furnace converts fuel to energy. The higher the AFUE percentage, the more energy-efficient or fuel-efficient the furnace. The U.S. government's established minimum AFUE rating for a furnace is 78 percent.

SEER

The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is a cooling efficiency rating for air conditioners. The higher the SEER, the better the energy performance, the more you save.

HSPF

The Heating Seasonal Performance Factor measures the efficiency of a heat pump. The U.S. government's established minimum HSPF ratings for heat pump is 6.8%. The higher the percentage the more efficiently the unit operates.
