Packaged HVAC Units in Chicago, IL
In most homes, the most common climate control system is a split system. This is a system that consists of two different units, one installed inside the home and one installed outside. Dedicated heating systems are not constructed this way, but most heat pumps and air conditioners are.
The problem with this kind of system in a commercial context is that most commercial HVAC systems are far too large to fit inside the commercial building itself. For situations like that, it’s a good idea to have a packaged HVAC system installed.
Elm Heating & Cooling, Inc. installs and services a wide variety of packaged HVAC systems throughout Chicago, IL. Call today to set up an appointment with one of our experts.

What is a Packaged HVAC Unit?
A packaged HVAC unit is a type of heat pump, usually installed on the roof or on the side of the building. A section of external ductwork connects the unit to the ducts in the building. Inside the unit are two coils, one to evaporate refrigerant and one to condense it. The inside of the unit is divided into two sections, but they’re both housed within the same casing.
The evaporating and condensing roles of each coil will switch depending on the mode, as packaged units are heat pumps and therefore capable of both heating and cooling functions. In cooling mode, the coil closest to the ducts evaporates refrigerant to absorb thermal energy from the building. The condenser coil then condenses the refrigerant to release the heat out of the building. In heating mode, the roles are reversed.
Advantages of a Packaged HVAC Unit
As mentioned before, the problem with standard climate control systems is that they are too large for most commercial buildings to house them. Packaged HVAC units offer the advantage of saving space without sacrificing output. They also provide the same advantage that all heat pumps provide, which is condensing both heating and air conditioning functions into a single system. For these reasons, a packaged unit is the climate control system of choice for a great many commercial buildings.
We Install and Service Packaged HVAC Units
As with all commercial HVAC systems, a packaged HVAC unit is quite large. It’s also quite complex, requiring a fair bit of electrical work to splice it into the building’s power grid. This is not the kind of thing that should ever be left to anyone but a professional. That’s why we offer a full range of packaged HVAC installation services throughout Chicago, IL. If you need to have a packaged HVAC system installed in your building, call today for an appointment.
You should be sure to schedule professional maintenance services for your packaged HVAC system, in order to mitigate any possible damage.
